Access Smartsheet in Microsoft 365 Copilot

The Smartsheet Connector for Microsoft 365 Copilot allows you to interact with your Smartsheet data using natural language on your PC and wherever you use Copilot.

When you use Smartsheet Connector in Copilot, you can query and act on your Smartsheet data through natural dialogue. Search for sheets, compare project health, build dashboards, and add comments across rows. Attach files as evidence, stage critical updates before applying them, and pull data for reports—all conversationally.

The connector allows you to synchronize data between Smartsheet and Microsoft 365 applications. Copilot’s Deep Research capability enables you to create extensive, comprehensive reports on key topics valuable to your business.

The following sections describe the prerequisites for using the Smartsheet Connector and demonstrate how to access Smartsheet in Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Prerequisites:

AI and MCP server access are enabled for Smartsheet organizations by default. Unless your Smartsheet system admin disabled AI or MCP server access, you're ready to configure the connector.

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot license with Copilot Studio access (included in most Microsoft 365 Copilot Enterprise plans)
  • Agent enhanced with the Smartsheet MCP Connector. An administrator must set up a Microsoft 365 Copilot agent with the Smartsheet MCP Connector. For instructions, refer to Configure Microsoft Copilot 365 for your organization.
  • AI and MCP server access must not be disabled in Smartsheet for your organization. Note, AI and MCP server access are enabled by default.

Connect to Smartsheet

The following steps demonstrate using the Smartsheet Connector in Microsoft 365 Copilot:

  1. Open Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  2. In the agent list, find and select the agent your administrator configured for your organization. For example, if your administrator named it Smartsheet, find and select the Smartsheet agent from the list.

You’re ready to interact with your Smartsheet data in Microsoft 365 Copilot chat.

Your Microsoft 365 Copilot agent administrator(s) specify the availability of Smartsheet MCP Server tools (Smartsheet functional capabilities) to the agent. To modify Smartsheet MCP tool availability in the agent, contact an agent administrator in your organization.
