Access Smartsheet in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Connected to the Smartsheet Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, you can query and act on your Smartsheet data through natural dialogue. Search for sheets, compare project health, build dashboards, and add comments across rows. Attach files as evidence, stage critical updates before applying them, pull data for reports, and synchronize data between Smartsheet and Microsoft 365 applications—all conversationally.

Connect Smartsheet to Copilot Cowork

The Copilot Cowork Connector is available in Copilot Cowork as a plugin.

Before you begin

• Check your Copilot license - Make sure you have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license with Cowork.
• In Smartsheet Admin Center, the "Copilot Cowork Connector" must be enabled. It's enabled by default for all eligible plans. If Copilot Cowork Connector access to Smartsheet appears to be blocked, contact your system administrator to activate it in Smartsheet Admin Center.

Connect Smartsheet to Cowork

The following steps demonstrate how to connect Smartsheet to Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork (Cowork).

1. Open Cowork.
2. Select Customize to view available plugins.
3. Search for “Smartsheet”.
4. Select the Smartsheet connector plugin for your region. For example, Smartsheet Connector US.
5. Click Connect.
6. Enable the plugin if it’s not already enabled.
7. Open a new task.

In the Cowork task's prompt box, use natural language to work with your Smartsheet projects.

Connect Smartsheet to Copilot Chat

In Copilot Chat, you can use natural language with Smartsheet via a custom agent that your Microsoft administrator configures in Copilot Studio.

Before you begin

• Check your Copilot license - Make sure you have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license with Copilot Studio access (included in most Microsoft 365 Copilot Enterprise plans).
• Microsoft administrator configures the connector as an agent - In Copilot Studio, a Microsoft administrator must configure and publish a custom agent connected to the Smartsheet MCP Server. For instructions, refer to Configure a custom agent to make Smartsheet available in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
• In Smartsheet Admin Center, the "Microsoft 365 Copilot Connector" must be enabled. It's enabled by default for all eligible plans. If Copilot Chat access to Smartsheet appears to be blocked, contact your system administrator to activate it in Smartsheet Admin Center.

Connect Smartsheet to Copilot Chat

The following steps show how to connect Smartsheet to  Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat:

1. Open Microsoft 365 Copilot.
2. In the agent list, find and select the agent your Microsoft administrator configured for your organization. For example, if your administrator named it Smartsheet, search for "Smartsheet" in the agent list and select it.

Your Microsoft administrator(s) specify the Smartsheet MCP Server tools (Smartsheet functional capabilities) available via the agent. If there's a Smartsheet capability you want to use that's unavailable, contact your Microsoft administrator.

Also, some Smartsheet capabilities are unavailable for this connector. They include the ability to delete a sheet, create a dashboard, add a chart, and retrieve some types of user and seat information.
