USM Content
Smartsheet Regions gives you control over where your account data is hosted: United States (US), European Union (EU), or Australia (AU).
If your organization has data residency, sovereignty, or regulatory requirements that dictate where data must live, Smartsheet Regions lets you meet those obligations by selecting a specific hosting location when you create your account.
Each regional instance operates independently, meaning data stays within its region and doesn't move between instances.

Choosing a region
Your data hosting requirements determine which region to purchase. If regulations or company policy require data to reside in a specific geography, choose that region. If you don't have a specific regional requirement, the US instance is the default.
Keep these key points in mind:
- You select your region when you create your account, and you can't change it later. Choose carefully before purchasing.
- Each region is a separate, isolated instance. You can't share items, transfer ownership, or reference data across regions.
- If your organization needs to host data across more than one region, you need a separate plan for each region.
There is no self-service data migration between regions. The region you select at account creation is permanent.
Smartsheet Regions FAQs
Where can I find information about data hosting options?
For details about Smartsheet Regions and international data hosting, visit the Smartsheet Trust Center.
Can I migrate my existing data?
No. The region for your data is set when you create your account. To maintain data privacy and regulatory standards, regional instances aren't connected to each other, so data migration between regions isn't available. However, there are a few workarounds if you need to Move and share content between Smartsheet regions.
Can I share items with a colleague in a different regional instance?
No. You can't share an item between regional instances (US, EU, AU). Smartsheet keeps content separated across regions regardless of whether you're a member (user model) or a licensed user (legacy model).
There are a few workarounds if you need to Work with content across Smartsheet Regions.
Do I need an account for each Smartsheet Regions instance?
You need a plan for each region where you host data. For example, if your organization hosts data in the AU, EU, and the US regions, you need three plans. If a single hosted region is enough, purchase just that one.
To create content in multiple regions, you must be a licensed user (in the legacy model) or member (in the user model) for each region. However, you could be a Viewer or Guest in a different region.

Is storage all cloud-based?
Yes, Smartsheet EU is hosted in an AWS Cloud in Frankfurt, Germany, with backup in Dublin, Ireland. Smartsheet AU is hosted in an AWS Cloud in Sydney, Australia, with backup in Melbourne, Australia.
Can I transfer item ownership between regional instances?

Yes, though non-Members (user model) or users without a license (legacy model) are region-specific. You can hold a Viewer or Guest role on accounts in the US, AU, and EU instances simultaneously.
Can I create formulas that reference sheets in different regions?
No. Sheets aren't visible across regional instances, so you can't create cross-region formula references.
Can I use Smartsheet Control Center across regional instances?
No. Smartsheet Control Center doesn't work across the US, AU, and EU instances. Based on your plan, you can purchase separate US, AU, and EU instances of Control Center.
Does WorkApps work in Smartsheet Regions? Can a WorkApps user in the US instance see an EU instance asset via WorkApps?
Yes. WorkApps are available on Smartsheet Regions. Based on your plan, you can purchase separate US and EU instances of WorkApps.
WorkApps aren't available in the Smartsheet Region Australia instance.
Data for Smartsheet items within a WorkApp remains in the region where the WorkApp is hosted. For example, on an EU-hosted instance, a WorkApp includes only content from the EU region, and updates are hosted there as well.
Anyone can be shared to a WorkApp, and depending on permissions within the WorkApp, may be able to make edits. Still, that data remains hosted in the region where it was created.
Can I embed a sheet from one regional instance in another instance’s dashboard?
Yes, you can embed published items across Smartsheet Regions instances.
Can I consolidate multiple accounts across regional instances?
You can't merge accounts across regional instances. Contact your sales rep to discuss other options.
How does the API work in the EU and AU instances?
Each Smartsheet Regions instance is a separate data island with its own API tokens. If you're an API developer working with a Smartsheet Regions EU or AU account, note these differences from the standard API:
Base URLs for API calls:
- Europe: https://api.smartsheet.eu
- Australia: https://api.smartsheet.au
The API documentation uses smartsheet.com in all examples. When working with a regional instance, replace the base URL with the appropriate regional URL above.
API tokens are region-specific:
- Europe: tokens issued at api.smartsheet.eu
- Australia: tokens issued at api.smartsheet.au
If you use a Smartsheet SDK, modify the standard config file to point to your regional endpoint.
Does the Smartsheet mobile app work with Smartsheet Regions?
Yes. When you log in to the Smartsheet mobile app, you can change your region on the login page. Select your regional instance at the bottom of the login screen.
Do I need to be physically present in Australia to access Smartsheet Regions Australia?
No. A user can access Smartsheet Regions Australia from anywhere in the world. For example, a user in the US or Japan can access an instance hosted in Australia. All updates, regardless of the user's physical location, reside in Smartsheet Regions Australia.
