The Smartsheet DataMesh app is a premium app that eliminates typos, duplicative data entry, and unnecessary work by mapping your Smartsheet data between large sheets and reports. It provides a way to automatically copy and paste data to ensure consistency among one-to-many relationships.
Use case examples include:
- Project Planning: Pull cost information from a rate table into your projects.
- Property Management: Ensure all address and location specific data is consistent.
- Human Resources: Keep employee information current across multiple sheets.
About DataMesh
If you have DataMesh purchased on your plan, it will appear in your Launcher after you first sign in at datamesh.smartsheet.com.
If you have access to Smartsheet University you can find this same information with click-through instructions in the DataMesh course.
Overview
With DataMesh, you can map your Smartsheet data across multiple sheets and reports — eliminating typos and duplicative data entry. DataMesh provides a way to automatically copy/paste data and create cell-links to ensure consistency among one-to-many relationships.
With DataMesh you can:
- Automatically find and remove duplicates
- Create links between sheets based on lookup values that you specify
- Automatically populate empty cells in one sheet based on a known lookup value in one or more sheets (for example, if you have a source sheet that contains phone numbers for a list of people, you could use DataMesh to update a different sheet with those same phone numbers)
Some examples of DataMesh use cases are:
- Project Planning: Pull cost information from a rate table into your projects.
- Property Management: Ensure all address and location specific data is consistent.
- Human Resources: Keep employee information current across multiple sheets.
Terms to know
- Source: This is where the information is being mapped from. For example, this might be a master list of employee information with employee codes, roles, and bill rates.
- Target: This is where the information is being mapped to. For example, if you had a project plan and wanted to pull up-to-date bill rates for resources, you might want to pull bill rates from the SOURCE (employee information sheet) to the TARGET (project plan).
- Lookup Values: This term is the same as the idea of Unique Identifiers covered in the Data Shuttle help documentation. With Lookup Values, these are unique IDs that should not be repeated within your source. For example, in the employee information sheet example, employees might be identified by their Employee ID number, which should not be repeated in the selected Lookup Value Column. Other examples of Lookup Values might be: part numbers or student ID numbers.
