Overview

DataMesh allows you to:

  • Automatically keeps data up-to-date across sheets.
  • Create links between sheets based on lookup values that you specify.

  • Automatically populate empty cells in a sheet based on a known lookup value in another sheet.

    • For example, if you have a source sheet that contains phone numbers for a list of people, you could use DataMesh to update a different sheet with those same phone numbers.

When to use DataMesh

  • Project Planning: Pull cost information from a rate table into your projects.
  • Property Management: Ensure all address and location-specific data is consistent.
  • Human Resources: Keep employee information up to date across multiple sheets.

To effectively use DataMesh, it's essential to understand the following terms:

  • Source: The source of the information being mapped, either a sheet or a report. For example, a primary list of employee information, including employee codes, roles, and billing rates.
  • Target: This is where the information is mapped. For example, if you have a project plan and need to access the bill rates, you could map contractor information to the tasks in your project plan.
  • Lookup Values: Unique IDs that shouldn’t repeat in your source. For example, employees might identify by their Employee ID number, which shouldn’t be repeated in the selected Lookup Value Column. Other examples might be part numbers or student ID numbers.

To create a DataMesh, in the source, you need Viewer permissions or higher for a sheet, and Admin permissions or higher if using a report. Similarly, you need Admin permissions or higher in the target sheet.
