Change the color of task bars

You can color a sheet's task bars however you like.

Task bars are colored bars that help show time duration, mark milestones, and distinguish work items. For example, task bars in the following image represent time-based work items. You can color task bars to meet your needs.

Here, you'll learn how to color task bars from different sheet views.

It's impossible to change task bar colors in reports. Any task bar colors in reports reflect the color of the task bar in the source sheet. 

Color a task bar in a view

You can color task bars visible in the following views.

Gantt View task bar

  1. Right-click on a task bar. 
  2. Select Color Settings. A color palette appears. 
  3. Select the color you want for the task bar. 

Calendar View task bar

  1. Right-click on a task bar.
  2. Select Color Settings. A color palette appears.
  3. Select the color you want for the task bar. 

Card View task bar

  1. Select the colored left edge of a card. A color palette appears.
  2. Select the color you want for the card edge. 

Timeline View task bar

  1. Note the timeline item (bar or milestone) you want to color.
  2. Switch to Gantt View, Calendar View, or Card View.
  3.  Change the item's color in the new view, following the applicable view instructions above.
