Delete a File Attachment From a Sheet

If a file attached to your sheet is no longer relevant to your work in Smartsheet, you can remove it.

When you delete a file from Smartsheet, it is completely removed — this action cannot be undone.

Who can use this capability

Permission requirements icon Owners, Admins, and Editors on a sheet can add, version, or delete attachments. Anyone with access to the sheet can view and download attachments. You can send an attachment in an email to anyone with a valid email address.
Plan availability icon All plan types. System Admins for Enterprise and Premier accounts can disable any file attachment options. (See Manage Global Account Settings.)


Delete files attached to a sheet

Delete one or more files from the right panel with the steps below.

Some files may be attached to a comment. They can only be removed by deleting the file from comment they're attached to. (See the steps below for details.) 

Delete a single file

In the sheet:

  1. Click the Attachments icon in the right panel.
  2. Hover over the attachment that you'd like to delete and click the Menu icon > Delete File.

Delete multiple files

In the sheet:

  1. Click the Attachments icon in the right panel.
  2. Check the boxes next to any attachments that you want to delete.

  3. Click Actions > Delete Files > Delete.

That's it! Note that attachments to comments can only be removed by deleting the comment they're attached to, as described below.
