Create a project in Content Automation

Projects are folders that house a selection of a user's documents.

Find out if this capability is included in Smartsheet Regions or Smartsheet Gov.

Create an empty project

  1. Open the Projects tab, and select New Project.
  2. Select the New Empty Project thumbnail to create a blank project folder.
  3. Give your project a name and assign the project to a team. Select whether you want to make the project visible to everyone on the team or only yourself.
  4. Select Create Project.

You are now ready to add documents to your project.

Create a project from a project kit

  1. Open the Projects tab, and select New project.
  2. Select any kit thumbnails (anything other than the New Empty Project thumbnail) to create a project kit. 

    If you would like to preview the project kit before adding it, select the eye icon on the thumbnail.

  3. Choose Select this kit.
  4. Give your project a name and assign the project to a team. Choose whether you want to make the project visible to everyone on the team or only yourself.
  5. Select Create Project to see all of the templates inside the project. 

You can start editing the templates or adding more templates to the project.

Create a project with documents

  1. Open the Projects tab, and select New document.
  2. Select the templates you want to create your documents with, then select Create documents.
  3. Select Create new project.
  4. Give the project a name and choose if it should be private or visible to other team members.
  5. Select what teams you’re creating the project for, even if the project is private, as you may wish to share this project with a team later. 

    If you select multiple teams, multiple projects will be created - one for each team selected. 

  6. Select Create project.
