You can add a chart based on a table of data from a sheet.

If you base your chart on data from a report, you’ll want to ensure that you’ve configured the widget so that it shows data the way that you want (the perspective of the last widget editor or the viewer). For more information, see Control Widget Content When Source Is From a Report. Also, when a Report is used as the source for a chart widget, the entirety of the Report data is selected automatically. 

 

To do thisFollow these steps
Switch how columns and rows are plotted on your chartToggle on/off Switch rows/columns
Change the chart typeSelect the chart type you want to use from the drop-down menu
Add a title to your chartExpand the Title section and enter your title as needed. Toggle on/off Show Title as wanted. Use the styling options to format the title.
Add a title to the horizontal/vertical axis of your chartExpand the Horizontal or Vertical Axis section and enter your title as needed. Use the styling options to format the title. Use the styling options to format the label. Toggle on/off to show tick marks
Edit Series DataSelect which series to edit. Toggle on/off to show the value label. Toggle on/off to fill lines
Add or move a legend on your chartExpand the legend section and select the option you want to use. Use the styling options to format the legend.
Add gridlines to your chart (except Pie Charts)Expand the Horizontal Axis or Vertical Axis sections and toggle on show gridlines
Label slices of a pie chart with a percentage of the whole or actual valuesExpand the Pie Chart & Series section. Select the Value Labels drop-down and select the option you want to use. Here you can change the colors for each section of the pie chart and toggle on/off the option to display as a semicircle.

Expand the Series section and choose which item to apply formatting to.

Note that the Default option applies to all data in the chart.

Ignore the text labels that you’ve typed in the cells of your tableToggle on Use column names as labels.
Edit the interaction of the widget (interaction is what happens when you click the widget)Expand the Widget Behavior section. When someone clicks this widget, select the interaction you want to use.

Make your changes and then click Done.

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to use the data in the top row of my table as labels but the chart is using my column names instead. How do I fix this?

When there are integer values in the top row of your data, the Charts widget will assume these values are meant to be plotted and use the column names as labels instead. If you want to force the use of the data in the top row of your table as labels, uncheck Use column names as labels.

Can a chart be created from data in more than one sheet?

Currently, charts can only be created against data in a single sheet or report. If your source data is on multiple sheets, create a report to collect the information, or use cell links or a formula that references data from another sheet to collect your data into one sheet. My custom color configuration is not displaying on an existing chart. How do I save a custom color configuration to a series in a chart?

When a chart uses a row-based grouping and summary report, and only one column is selected under Columns Included in the chart widget, you can't save custom color configuration for the charted series.

If you change the series colors from the default, colors will revert back to system default colors upon saving.

To fix this:

  1. Edit the chart widget. For more information on how to edit a chart, see Modify an Existing Chart.
  2. Under Columns Included, select the primary column to name the series.
  3. Select Series, then select each value to update color choices. Once you save, the custom color configuration will display on the chart and persist.
