Smartsheet SAML error: IdP metadata

Error symptom

The error states the following:

"The IdP metadata URL you provided cannot be used because it is pointing at a server with an untrusted SSL certificate. Please copy and paste the actual metadata into the field instead." 

Cause

Some probable causes include:

  • Unsupported Identity Provider (IdP)
  • Expired SSL certificate

Resolution

  • Make sure you're using a supported IdP Provider. Any IdP using SAML 2.0 is supported. 
  • Check the certificate(s). To learn how, check out Identify SAML assertion issues. 
  • Work with your IdP admin to make sure the certificate is configured correctly and up-to-date. Upload new metadata to Smartsheet as needed.
