Bulk management metadata conversions

Metadata conversions in bulk management allow you to generate custom fields or tags based on embedded metadata from each asset’s first attachment. This heightens the searchability of these potentially essential terms for users.

  • Brandfolder

Permissions:

  • Owner
  • Administrator

Find out if this capability is included in Smartsheet Regions or Smartsheet Gov.

Create a metadata conversion

  1. Navigate to Settings > Bulk Management.
  2. Select Metadata Conversions from the left menu. 
  3. Select + Create New in the top right-hand corner. 
  4. Select what you want to convert the metadata into. Your options are Custom Fields or Tags.
  5. Select the embedded metadata field to convert. 
  6. If you're converting into Custom Fields, you must enter the Existing Custom Field Key for Metadata. 
  7. Select Create Conversion. 

The metadata conversion applies to assets uploaded after successfully creating the conversion. 

In the metadata conversions chart, you can see:

  • The embedded metadata field
  • What the field is converted to
  • Edit each conversion by using the pencil icon
  • Delete conversions using the trash can icon.
