Send automated email notifications

Create a workflow to send email notifications when someone edits your sheet.

Find out if this capability is included in Smartsheet Regions or Smartsheet Gov.

Use automation to send notifications to specific people when there are changes in the sheet. 

  1. On the top of your sheet, select Automation > Create from template…
  2. Select Alert someone when anything changes.
  3. Select Use template.
  4. Name your workflow and select when to run it.
  5. Select who you want to notify of the changes in the sheet.
  6. Optional: you can personalize the notification by selecting Customize message
  7. Select Save

Customize message

Here is what you can customize in the notification:

  1. Select who sends the notification: This is the email that the recipient sees in the From field.
    • Send from Smartsheet Automation
    • Send from my organization
    • Send from triggering user
  2. Subject: This is the subject that appears in the email notification. 
  3. Body: The message that is sent in the email notification. 

To include a field name in the subject or body message, use double brackets; for example {{Task}}.
