Timeline view allows you to display your reports in a horizontal timeline based on dates.
USM Content
Timeline view reports let you combine multiple sheets and view them in a single, editable timeline report. This helps you create a centralized visual for communicating the status of projects and portfolios.
How to create a timeline report
Before you begin, you need a sheet with at least one date column.
Then, follow the steps to build a row report. Once your report is ready, change your view to timeline view.
Keep in mind that if you used Summarize or Sort in the report, these aren’t applied in timeline view.
How to edit a timeline report
If you want to edit your report in timeline view, use the details panel.
When you open a report in timeline view, each row displays as a bar or a milestone. You can get more details about each row by hovering over it. Double-click on the item or select the options menu to open the details panel.
Only users with Editor or higher permissions can edit the details of the bars and milestones. However, you need to be an Admin and switch to grid view to edit and see the underlying information of the timeline report. This information includes:
- Source sheets
- Selected columns
- Filters
- Groups
How to edit color formatting
Users with Admin permissions can choose whether to see the colors of the underlying sheets, which can be set manually or from conditional formatting, or display the default rotating colors of the timeline view.
How to edit report settings
Users with Admin permissions can open the report settings toolbar by selecting the settings icon in the top right corner of the report.
Report editors can see the settings icon, but they can’t access it. Report viewers can’t see the icon.
Users can’t create new columns from the settings panel.
