Optional Setup

You can start using your workflow right away. The Smartsheet template has a form with an email field you can use to gather emails and the rows will be enriched with data found by Clearbit.

The sheet and workflow are built with some basic information available from Clearbit but you can add or change the information easily. To see the information from Clearbit either run the workflow once and see what it returns in the Run Log.

If you want to update the sheet with more information, you can create a new column for each item and give the new column(s) an appropriate name.

In your workflow click on the Update Row element to reveal the setup panel. Expand the Cells section.

Update Row

Create a new row for each column you have added to your sheet and enter the column name in the Key # field. The field next to each column name is where you enter the reference to the corresponding information returned by Clearbit.

The simplest way to get those data references is to run the workflow once, and open the Run Log. Expand the step called Clearbit: Person Lookup. When you find the data you want to reference click on the menu next to it and select Copy Data Reference. Paste this reference into the Update Row setup panel.

To ensure your workflow behaves correctly in the event of Clearbit not returning a value for a particular piece of information,be sure to include a second option in the reference.

For example, let's say you have chosen to create a new column in your sheet for 'Country'. You have found the data reference and pasted it into the Update Row setup panel.

{{states.Get Lead}}

At the end of the reference you can add either another reference or a piece of text to use if the first reference doesn't contain data by adding vertical bars '||'.

{{states.Get Lead||No Country found}}

This will update your sheet with the text 'No Country found' if Clearbit couldn't find a country. If you don't do this the workflow will still work but it will update the sheet with the actual data reference instead which could be confusing for others using the same sheet.

Example Sheet

The below screenshot shows the sheet that was used when building this example. Most of the columns below are used in the workflow so if you are following this exact example make sure you have the same columns in your sheet.
